Their back-and-forth in the early chapters—all barbed teasing and loaded silences—had me rewinding just to catch the subtext. The action scenes are where the audiobook *shines*. Lawson’s fight choreography is visceral, and the production team nails it: punches land with a meaty *thud*, breath comes fast, and Paige’s grunts of pain sell the stakes. That said, the mid-act pacing drags slightly during a subplot involving Cole’s ex-teammate; it’s clear Lawson wanted to deepen the world, but the detour disrupts the momentum. And while the steamy scenes sizzle (Lewis’s husky laugh is *chef’s kiss*), the abrupt shift from ‘I can’t have you’ to ‘I’ll die for you’ might feel whiplash-y for some.
