Here Comes My Man

I went into *Here Comes My Man* expecting a fluffy, trope-heavy romp, and while it delivers on the fun, it also surprised me by how deeply it explores the messiness of unresolved feelings. Teddy Hamilton’s narration as the smug, infuriatingly charming actor, Jake, is a masterclass in balancing arrogance and vulnerability—I laughed out loud at his delivery of a line like *‘I’m not just a pretty face, I’m also a terrible roommate.’* Shane East, voicing the stressed-out writer, Eli, nails the exasperation and longing in equal measure, especially during the quieter moments where the script could have easily veered into melodrama. That said, the pacing stumbles in the middle act when the plot relies a bit too heavily on contrived scenarios to keep the fake-dating ruse alive. A few of the supporting characters, particularly Eli’s agent, feel underdeveloped, which makes their motivations harder to swallow. Still, the audiobook’s strengths far outweigh its hiccups. The chemistry between Hamilton and East is electric, and the production’s use of subtle sound design—like the occasional creak of a door or the muffled sound of a city street—to ground the scenes in Eli’s POV adds a layer of immersion you don’t get in print. If you’re craving a romance that’s equal parts laughter and longing, with a side of *‘How did I get here?’* energy, this is your audiobook.
