About This Audiobook

Catherine Bybee crafts a visceral historical romance where survival hinges on an unforeseen protector. Amber’s flight from danger leads her straight into the rugged arms of a Highland warrior whose loyalty is as fierce as his sword arm. This isn’t a gentle courtship—it’s a high-stakes chase where trust is forged in the heat of battle and desire simmers beneath every bruised knuckle and whispered oath. The Scottish Highlands serve as more than a backdrop; they pulse with danger, folklore, and the raw beauty of a wild land where every shadow could hide a threat—or a savior. Bybee’s prose crackles with urgency, blurring the line between historical detail and modern emotional immediacy, making it impossible to pause between chapters.

David Monteath’s narration is the secret weapon here. His voice isn’t just a delivery system—it’s a force of nature. He modulates between guttural battle grunts and tender whispers with effortless precision, grounding the audacious premise in palpable authenticity. The production is pristine, with no jarring cuts or muffled dialogue, letting the story’s intensity breathe. If you’ve ever wanted a romance where the hero isn’t just built like a fortress, but *sounds* like one too, this performance will ruin you for lesser narrators.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I’ll admit, I was skeptical when a romance novel promised me a Highland protector who could single-handedly thwart death itself. But Bybee and Monteath conspired to dismantle my skepticism within the first twenty minutes. Monteath’s voice is a weapon—deep, resonant, and capable of shifting from a growl that rattles your ribs to a murmur that curls your toes. He nails the warrior’s gruff exterior but also captures the vulnerability beneath, especially in scenes where the hero’s protective instincts clash with his own haunted past. The pacing is relentless, which is both a gift and a curse; I found myself pausing only to refill my coffee, not because the story dragged. That said, the audiobook isn’t without its hiccups. At one point, a supporting character’s accent veered so far into caricature that I had to double-check I wasn’t listening to a parody. The production team could’ve tightened the editing around a few breathy sighs that sound suspiciously like ASMR triggers. But these are minor quibbles in an otherwise stellar experience. The chemistry between the leads is electric, the stakes feel genuinely life-or-death, and the Scottish setting is so vivid I could smell the heather. If you’re craving a romance where love isn’t just a feeling but a battle cry, Highland Protector delivers in spades.
