Holiday Greetings from Sugar and Booze

I went into *Holiday Greetings from Sugar and Booze* expecting a light, diverting listen—something to play while wrapping presents or avoiding my in-laws. What I got was a masterclass in comedic ensemble work, elevated by the sheer audacity of its performers. Ana Gasteyer and Maya Rudolph share lead duties, and their chemistry is electric; they bounce off each other like verbal ping-pong balls, trading barbs and harmony in a way that makes you wish every holiday gathering had this much charm. Patti LuPone’s cameo as a dramatic caroler singing a love ballad to a cinnamon roll is worth the price of admission alone. The narration is polished but never stiff, with the full cast leaning into the absurdity without tipping into parody. That said, the production isn’t perfect. A couple of transitions feel abrupt, like the audiobook skipped a beat (literally), and some of the musical numbers might leave you wishing for more than 30 seconds of payoff. Still, the pacing is relentless, and the jokes land with such precision that even the weaker moments feel like minor hiccups in an otherwise flawless holiday spectacle.
