About This Audiobook

Hooked isn’t just another small-town romance—it’s a slow-burn powder keg wrapped in Southern charm. Emily McIntire crafts a story where the past isn’t just haunting the present; it’s actively rewriting it. The tension isn’t manufactured; it’s the gnawing ache of a wound that never quite closed. When a woman returns to the town she fled years ago, she expects echoes of her old life. What she doesn’t expect is the man who once saved her from drowning now dragging her back into the riptide. The writing is sharp enough to cut, with McIntire’s knack for turning clichés on their head—think ‘healing hurts’ turned into a visceral, sticky truth. The audiobook elevates this with Felicity Munroe and Rupert Hawthorne trading narration duties, their voices smoldering in the steamy scenes and crisp in the tense silences. Rupert’s gravel-voiced villain exudes a menace that lingers, while Munroe’s tender, breathy tone makes the moments of raw vulnerability feel like a punch to the gut.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I started Hooked expecting another run-of-the-mill enemies-to-lovers plot, but McIntire’s razor-sharp dialogue and refusal to let her characters off easy had me hooked from the first chapter. The audiobook takes this up a notch, with Munroe and Hawthorne delivering performances that feel less like narration and more like eavesdropping on a private hell. Hawthorne’s portrayal of the antagonist is chillingly understated—his calm, measured tone masks the rot beneath, while Munroe’s hushed, emotional delivery in the protagonist’s introspective moments made me physically lean in to catch every word. That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle act when the backstory dumps start to feel like homework. And while I appreciate the dual narration, a few key transitions between their voices were jarring enough to yank me out of the story. Still, the chemistry between the narrators sells even the cheesiest moments, and the production quality—from breathing room between scenes to the subtle use of sound design—keeps the immersive factor high. This isn’t a book for those who want neat resolutions; it’s for listeners who crave messy, emotional, and undeniably addictive storytelling.
