The audiobook’s production is clean but not sterile, with just enough ambient texture (a distant temple bell, the rustle of fabric) to ground the listener in Nila’s world without distracting. My only critique? The flashback sequences sometimes blur together in audio form—Chow’s nonlinear timeline works better on the page, where visual cues help. And while Samuel’s upper-caste male voices are serviceable, they lack the nuance of her female characters.
