I’ll admit, I was skeptical about Ruggero Andreozzi’s take on Jack Reacher. After all, the character’s iconic gravelly voice is seared into my brain from Scott Brick’s performances. But Andreozzi doesn’t just mimic—he embodies. His delivery of Reacher’s dry, sarcastic wit is pitch-perfect, and when the action surges, his voice drops into a growl that feels primal. The production is crisp, with no muffled dialogue or distracting background noise, letting Andreozzi’s performance shine. That said, there were two moments where the narration tripped me up. First, Andreozzi’s Italian accent occasionally peeked through in certain phrasings, which was jarring in a story set in the U.S. Second, the pacing in the middle act felt slightly sluggish—I found myself wishing the tension ramped up a little sooner. But these are minor quibbles in an otherwise stellar performance. The story itself is a standout, with Child weaving a conspiracy that feels both timely and timeless. Reacher’s moral code is as sharp as ever, and the Cold War setting adds a layer of urgency without feeling dated. If you’re a fan of high-stakes thrillers with a protagonist you can root for (or fear), this audiobook delivers. Just don’t listen while driving—you’ll miss the tension.
