The romance, when it arrives, feels earned precisely because it’s not the focus—it’s a byproduct of Gray’s painful, incremental growth. The narration elevates the material significantly. Winston James’ performance is the audiobook’s secret weapon: he doesn’t just *read* Gray’s lines, he *embodies* the weight of them.
