January LaVoy is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does. The moment Peyton snaps at her best friend, *‘If I’m going to fake being a functional adult, at least let me do it with dignity,’* LaVoy’s delivery turns a throwaway line into a character archetype. She also nails the tender beats, especially in the scenes where Peyton’s amnesia forces her to question whether her memories or her instincts are the real betrayal. The production team deserves credit too; the sound design is subtle but effective, using ambient noise to underscore Peyton’s disorientation without ever pulling focus from the story. That said, the book’s third act stumbles into familiar rom-com territory, relying a bit too heavily on contrived reveals and a love interest whose charm borders on smugness. Peyton’s arc, while deeply satisfying for much of the runtime, occasionally veers into ‘how did I not see this coming?’ territory, particularly around the secondary romance subplot.
