Lucy Scott’s narration is nothing short of exceptional in the RNIB Edition of Jane Eyre. Her voice weaves through every scene with such depth that you can almost feel the cold stone walls of Thornfield Hall and hear the distant echoes of Mr. Rochester’s haunting laughter. The narrative pacing is impeccable, allowing moments of introspection to linger just as they should, while maintaining a brisk pace during more action-driven sections. Scott’s portrayal of Jane’s inner turmoil is particularly striking; her voice conveys both the vulnerability and determination that define this iconic character. While the audiobook might be lengthy at 20 hours and 27 minutes, it is well worth the investment for those who appreciate a deeply immersive listening experience. The only minor critique is that some of the more complex dialogues could benefit from occasional clarifying pauses to avoid overwhelming listeners with the density of Brontë’s prose.
