Just for the Summer

I went into Just for the Summer expecting another run-of-the-mill fake dating trope, but Jimenez and her stellar narrators, Simone Scheuer and Louis Friedemann Thiele, turned it into something I didn’t know I needed. Scheuer’s performance is electric—her Stella is all sharp edges and hidden softness, her voice dripping with sarcasm one moment and vulnerability the next. Thiele, voicing Justin, nails the gruff, self-absorbed exterior while letting his gruffness crack just enough to reveal the wounded guy beneath. Together, they make the banter feel like eavesdropping on a couple who can’t stand each other… until they absolutely can’t live without each other. The pacing is tight, the humor lands every time, and the production quality is crisp—no awkward pauses or tinny dialogue here. That said, I did find the third-act conflict resolved a bit too neatly for my taste; Jimenez hits emotional beats hard but skips a few logical steps to get there. Still, the payoff feels earned, and the audiobook experience is so immersive I forgot I was listening. If you love rom-coms that hit you where it counts, this one’s a summer must-listen.
