I’ll admit, I rolled my eyes at the ‘British guy in an American college’ premise—until Shane East opened his mouth. His narration as Jake is *ridiculously* good; he nails the mix of arrogance and vulnerability, making even the most obnoxious lines (and there are a few) sound irresistibly sexy. Andi Arndt’s performance as Fallon is equally sharp, her delivery capturing the character’s exasperation and hidden softness without veering into whiny territory. Together, they turn what could’ve been a cliché setup into something addictive. The story’s first half is its strongest, with Ward excelling at slow-burn tension. The bathroom meet-cute (more like meet-*hate*) sets the tone: a clash so charged you’ll rewind just to hear East’s ‘*bloody hell*’ again. But—critique time—the middle sags slightly with repetitive misunderstandings, and Jake’s backstory, while poignant, feels a touch underdeveloped compared to Fallon’s. That said, the road trip sequence is *chef’s kiss*—a perfect blend of humor, angst, and steam, with the audiobook’s production adding layers (the crackling campfire sounds? *Yes*). The ending, while satisfying, wraps up a tad neatly, but by then, you’re too invested to care. If you love romances with bite, banter that stings, and narrators who could read a grocery list and make it sound dirty, this is a no-brainer.
