About This Audiobook

R.S. Grey’s *King of the Court* isn’t your average sports romance with a side of small-town charm—it’s a full-court press of wit, heat, and heartache served with a side of greasy diner coffee. The setup is a classic: NBA superstar Ben Castillo walks into the worst-run diner in town, and our heroine, Kennedy Lane, doesn’t even look up from wiping down the counter. But here’s the twist—this isn’t a Cinderella story where the athlete sweeps the underdog off her feet with a single glance. The push and pull here is messy, real, and gloriously unpredictable. Ben isn’t just a golden boy with a six-pack and a winning smile; he’s got depth, flaws, and a vulnerability that sneaks up on you. Meanwhile, Kennedy’s got a razor-sharp tongue and a guard up higher than Ben’s jump shot. Their banter crackles like a live wire, and the slow-burn romance simmers just hot enough to keep you glued to your headphones.

The audiobook experience elevates this further. Narrators Aiden Snow and Desiree Ketchum bring distinct energy to the cast—Snow’s Ben is all smooth confidence and pent-up frustration, his voice dripping with the kind of charm that makes you forgive his alpha-male antics. Ketchum’s Kennedy is snarky, self-deprecating, and endlessly relatable, each syllable dripping with sarcasm that never feels overplayed. The production team nails the little details: the clatter of dishes in the diner, the hum of a crowd during a game, the way the silence between Ben and Kennedy feels louder than a stadium roar. It’s immersive without being distracting, and it makes the emotional punches land even harder.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *King of the Court* expecting a light, breezy fling wrapped in a sports romance bow—and I got that, but also so much more. The first half of this audiobook had me laughing out loud at Kennedy’s sharp comebacks and Ben’s infuriating yet endearing confidence. Snow and Ketchum have fantastic chemistry, their narration bouncing off each other like a well-rehearsed improv comedy duo. But about halfway through, the story takes a sharp left turn into territory I wasn’t fully prepared for. Ben’s backstory, which unfolds with gut-punching honesty, adds layers to his character that make his flaws feel less like romantic tropes and more like real human struggles. It’s a bold move, and while it slows the pacing slightly, it ultimately makes the payoff more satisfying. That said, the second half isn’t without its hiccups. At times, the emotional beats feel rushed, especially in the final act where resolutions wrap up a little too neatly. And while I appreciate the effort to balance humor and heart, a few supporting characters end up feeling like window dressing rather than fully fleshed-out players. Still, the audiobook’s strengths far outweigh its stumbles. The narration is top-tier, the banter is addictive, and the emotional payoff—when it hits—feels earned. If you’re craving a romance that’s equal parts laugh-out-loud and swoon-worthy, with enough sports drama to keep things lively, this one’s a slam dunk.
