About This Audiobook

Clara Morgan has spent her life hiding in plain sight—behind thick-framed glasses, a wall of curtains of hair, and the unshakable belief that if she’s invisible, she can’t get hurt. So when her job as a teaching assistant at Molton Prep puts her squarely in the orbit of wealthy, entitled parents and their impossibly polished children, she clings to her camouflage like a life vest. Enter Oliver Lawton, the school’s dishy new deputy headteacher and the kind of man whose very existence makes her pulse skip like a misaligned audio track. But Oliver doesn’t see invisibility—he sees potential. And when their professional paths collide, Clara’s carefully constructed defenses start to fracture, one stubborn layer at a time.

This isn’t just a meet-cute in a staffroom. Tate crafts a romance that feels grounded in reality despite its swoon-worthy premise. Clara’s self-deprecating wit and the lush, domestic backdrop of a posh British school give the story warmth and texture. The narration by Shane East and Zara Hampton-Brown is a standout—East’s velvety timbre suits Oliver’s confidence without veering into smugness, while Hampton-Brown nails Clara’s dry, internal monologue with precision. Together, they elevate the emotional beats, making the quiet moments as compelling as the charged ones.

AudioBook Atlas

I’ll admit I was skeptical about a romance set in a prep school—aren’t those places just breeding grounds for dodgy power dynamics and questionable birch-based discipline? But Susie Tate sold me on Clara’s voice instantly. Her narration by Shane East and Zara Hampton-Brown is a dream team: East’s Oliver drips with effortless charm, but Hampton-Brown’s Clara is the real star, her sarcastic asides crackling through the headphones like static from a well-loved radio. The chemistry isn’t just will-they-won’t-they—it’s a slow burn that feels earned, especially when Oliver’s persistence starts to chip away at Clara’s “don’t notice me” armor. That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle act. A few scenes drag as Clara overthinks every interaction with Oliver, and the subplot involving a rival teacher feels thin, like it was shoehorned in to pad the runtime. But the production is polished, with crisp audio that makes you forget you’re listening to an audiobook at all. The ending, while predictable in its Hallmarkian way, still left me grinning. If you love romances where the emotional payoff feels personal and the banter sings, grab this one—just be prepared to spend the next few hours mentally rearranging your bookshelf to make room for a smitten Clara.
