As someone who's spent countless hours listening to audiobooks, I was thoroughly enchanted by this gentle tale of love and connection. Sergio Rubini's narration is, quite simply, a work of art - his gentle cadence and soothing tone transported me to the quiet streets of Holt, Colorado, where Addie and Louis's story begins. I particularly appreciated the way the audiobook captures the beauty of the human experience, with all its fragilities and vulnerabilities, while Haruf's prose never once lingers on the maudlin or sentimental. If I have any criticism, it's that the supporting cast feels somewhat one-dimensional, their characters sketched in hastily as the story hurtles towards its quiet conclusion. Still, Haruf's central love story is so compelling, so beautifully drawn, that I'm willing to overlook these minor quibbles in the name of a truly unforgettable listening experience.
