I went into this expecting a dry retelling of Genesis, but Twain’s version is closer to a 19th-century Twitter feud between the first couple. The narration is where this audiobook truly shines: the Adam voice actor nails the petulant, clueless energy of a man who’d rather nap than ponder the meaning of life, while the Eve narrator steals the show with her dry, observational wit. The snake’s voice—smooth, amused, and just a little too pleased with itself—was a standout, though I wished it had more presence beyond the serpent’s few appearances. The pacing is brisk but never rushed, with jokes landing hard and fast in a way that feels modern. My only gripe? The production skips a beat in the transition between narrators, making the shift feel abrupt at times. Still, the humor and heart of the story more than compensate. Twain’s genius here is turning a sacred narrative into a comedy of errors, and the audiobook delivers that with flair. If you love wit with bite or stories that subvert expectations, this is a paradise worth revisiting.
