Phyllida Nash’s narration is the secret weapon of this audiobook. Her voice is warm and inviting, like a favorite teacher settling in for storytime, but she also knows when to crank up the drama. When Fluff gets lost in the blizzard, Nash’s pacing tightens, her breaths audible as she stumbles through the snow herself. The way she differentiates characters—from the gruff farmer to the mischievous sparrows—without overdoing accents makes the world feel lived-in, not caricatured. My six-year-old was glued to the story, and even my partner, who usually zones out during kids’ audiobooks, paused to listen during the climactic scenes. That said, the production has one hiccup: the chapters feel a bit too abrupt. One moment, Fluff’s in the middle of her adventure, and the next, the narrator’s wrapping up with a neat bow. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it jars a little in such a tight runtime. Another nitpick: the ending wraps up a tad too neatly, leaving little room for kids to wonder what happens next. Still, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise delightful listen.
