The Danish translation (or perhaps Johansen’s interpretation) gives Marple a slightly more sardonic edge than I’m used to in English versions; her “Dear me”s sound less like polite shock and more like *I told you so*. It’s a small shift, but it makes her victories even more satisfying. The stories themselves are classic Christie: a poisoned cocktail here, a suspicious drowning there, all solved by Marple’s knack for comparing village scandals to murder. My only critique? The production’s audio levels occasionally dip during quieter dialogue, forcing me to crank the volume—then jump when the next scene starts at full force. And while Johansen nails Marple, some secondary characters blur together in tone, lacking distinct vocal signatures. Still, the pacing is flawless. Christie’s twists land with surgical precision, and Johansen’s timing ensures you never see them coming. If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at a detective monologuing their genius, Marple’s understated brilliance—delivered here with a wink—will feel like a palate cleanser. Just don’t expect to outsmart her.
