I went into *Nevermore Bookstore* expecting a lighthearted rom-com, and while it delivers on the laughs, it also sneaks in a layer of suspense that kept me hooked far longer than intended. Teddy Hamilton’s narration is a masterclass in vocal alchemy—his delivery of Cady’s internal sarcasm is *chef’s kiss*, and his portrayal of the brooding caller is equal parts intimidating and irresistible. Stella Hunter’s performance as Cady is a standout, grounding the story with a relatable mix of wit and vulnerability. That said, the pacing stumbles slightly in the middle, where the mystery drags just enough to feel like a lull in the audiobook’s momentum. The production quality is top-notch, with crisp audio that makes the NYC street sounds feel like a background character, but I wish the chapter transitions were smoother—some of the cuts feel abrupt, disrupting the flow. The chemistry between the leads is electric, and Byrne’s writing shines in the quieter moments, where Cady’s introspection makes her feel like a real person rather than a rom-com archetype. The bookstore setting is a character in its own right, and the audiobook does a fantastic job of immersing you in its cozy, slightly eerie charm.
