I was hooked from the first sentence of Night Things. Terry M. West's writing is like a punch to the gut, visceral and unflinching. Paul Burt's narration is a perfect match, his voice as gritty and worn as the city streets Gary Hack prowls. The pacing is relentless, each chapter a descent into a new layer of depravity, yet I found myself unable to stop listening. The production is minimalistic, which works perfectly for this story, allowing the narration and the horrifying images West paints to take center stage. My only critique is that some of the monster descriptions could have been more fleshed out, but that's a small complaint in an otherwise gripping listen. This isn't a horror audiobook for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for something dark, disturbing, and unforgettable, Night Things delivers in spades.
