As an editor, I have to admit that I was initially intimidated by the sheer scope and complexity of Okla Hannali – but Stefan Rudnicki's narration quickly put me at ease. His steady, measured pace allows listeners to absorb the rich textures of Lafferty's world-building, and his deep, resonant voice brings a sense of gravitas to the narrative. One of the things that really struck me about this audiobook is the way it captures the contradictions and complexities of human nature – Hannali is a figure who is both a great warrior and a deeply vulnerable, empathetic individual. At times, the pacing can feel a bit uneven, and some of the supporting characters feel a bit underdeveloped – but these are minor quibbles in an otherwise stunning achievement. That being said, there are moments where the narrative feels overwrought, where the sheer number of mythological and cultural references starts to feel overwhelming. For listeners who are new to Lafferty's work, it may take a bit of time to get acclimated to his unique style – but for those who are willing to put in the effort, Okla Hannali offers a rich, rewarding listening experience that is well worth the investment.
