One Night in Winter

I'll be honest – 'One Night in Winter' left me shaken. Simon Sebag Montefiore's depiction of Stalin's Moscow is so vivid, so visceral, that I often found myself on the edge of my seat, desperate to know what would happen next. Simon Prebble's narration is a huge part of this audiobook's impact – his measured pace and nuanced delivery bring the characters to life in a way that's both intimate and expansive. One of the things that struck me most about 'One Night in Winter' is its ability to balance multiple storylines and character perspectives with ease. Sebag Montefiore's writing is so deft, so confident, that even the most complex threads are woven together seamlessly. If I have any quibble, it's that the audiobook's pacing can sometimes feel a bit rushed – particularly in the later stages, where the action becomes increasingly frenetic. Still, this is a minor complaint in an otherwise outstanding audiobook.
