Otherworldly

I started *Otherworldly* expecting a light, breezy alien caper—what I got was a tightly paced, surprisingly clever sci-fi romp that never talks down to its audience. The narration is a standout, with Mark Sanderlin and Michael Crouch locking in Mark and Levi’s sibling dynamic (Crouch’s Levi is especially endearing, all nervous energy and kid logic), while Amanda Turen’s Sky is a breath of fresh air—her chirpy, otherworldly cadence makes the alien feel both alien and instantly lovable. The full cast elevates the humor and tension; Nile Bullock’s bounty hunter is deliciously menacing, and the ensemble work during the climax is cinematic. That said, the production stumbles slightly in the final act, where some sound effects (the spaceship’s hum, specifically) feel a tad too tinny for my taste. The pacing is relentless, though—this isn’t a book you’ll want to pause, and the 2.5-hour runtime flies by. If you’re a parent hunting for an audiobook that’ll keep your 7–12-year-old glued to their headphones, this delivers. Just maybe skip the bedtime listen unless you want to field questions about why the government has black vans outside.
