Primordial World: Book 3

I’ll admit, I went into *Primordial World: Book 3* skeptical that Higgins could top the cliffhanger from Book 2, but damn if this doesn’t deliver. The opening act throws Seth and his crew into a brutal, almost *Mad Max*-meets-*Jurassic Park* gauntlet, and the audiobook’s strength lies in how Laura English sells every moment. Her performance during the battle sequences is particularly stellar—she doesn’t overdo the gore, but you *hear* the effort in Seth’s voice when he’s swinging a club or dragging a wounded ally to safety. That said, I wished she’d leaned harder into differentiating some of the secondary characters; a few of the tribal allies blur together in tone, which occasionally muddied the more complex political dynamics. The story itself is a white-knuckle ride, but it’s not all adrenaline. Higgins smartly uses the lulls between conflicts to dig into Seth’s psyche, and the revelation about his family’s disappearance isn’t just a plot twist—it’s a gut-check for the character. (Without spoilers: the way it’s handled feels earned, not manipulative.) My one critique? The Zoo’s mythology, while intriguing, sometimes gets buried under the action. A smidge more atmospheric buildup—maybe even subtle sound effects in the audiobook—could’ve made the setting feel even more alive. Still, for fans of visceral, character-driven survival tales with a prehistoric twist, this is a no-brainer. Just clear your schedule; you won’t want to pause.
