Connor Brown’s Rafe is the audiobook equivalent of a perfectly mixed cocktail: smooth, intoxicating, and just a little bit dangerous. His delivery of Rafe’s ‘I’m not *technically* disobeying’ logic is *chef’s kiss*, especially when paired with the heroine’s deadpan comebacks. Brown’s ability to switch between Rafe’s purring arrogance and the heroine’s exasperated sighs without missing a beat keeps the energy high, even when the plot occasionally skims over deeper conflicts (like, say, the *actual* stakes of this arranged marriage). The story’s biggest asset is its humor, but that’s also its occasional downfall. Pillow’s dialogue sparkles, but the worldbuilding feels thin—we’re told this is a high-stakes diplomatic mission, yet the tension often dissolves into banter.
