The sci-fi worldbuilding is sparse but effective: no info-dumps, just the occasional detail (a flickering hologram, the scent of ionized rain) that grounds the story in something tangible. The real star, though, is the audio production. C.J. Grey’s narration is so physically present—you can *hear* the weight of his character’s fatigue in the way he drags certain words, like they’re too heavy to lift. Macie Miller’s counterpart is the perfect foil: her voice is soft but never saccharine, with a hint of steel that keeps their dynamic from tipping into cliché. That said, the pacing stumbles in the middle. The romantic tension simmers a little *too* long, and a subplot involving a rogue faction feels undercooked—more a vehicle for angst than a fully fleshed conflict. And while the ending lands with emotional precision, the final confrontation wraps up almost *too* neatly for a story that otherwise thrives on ambiguity. Still, the narration saves even the slower stretches; Grey’s delivery during a monologue about ‘the cost of peace’ gave me chills.
