The narrator (whoever they are) gets this, delivering his lines with a drawl that’s less *howdy, partner* and more *you’re not leaving this room, darlin’*. It’s unsettling in the best way—like listening to a predator purr. That said, the audiobook isn’t without its stumbles. Peyton’s internal monologue sometimes veers into over-explaining her conflicted feelings, which can drag when you’re itching for the next confrontation. And while the chemistry is nuclear, a few of the ranch-hand side characters blur together, their voices lacking distinctness in the narration. But the good outweighs the clunky bits by a mile. The production quality is crisp, with no distracting edits, and the tension is *relentless*. There’s a scene in a barn—you’ll know it when you hear it—where the narrator’s voice drops to a growl so low it vibrates through your headphones. I actually paused to check if my door was locked. If you love romance that skirts the edge of horror, or Westerns that trade sunshine for sin, this one’s a bull ride worth taking. Just hold on tight.
