About This Audiobook

Mitch Callahan’s ex jilts him at the altar and he’s stuck with a non-refundable Cancún honeymoon—so he wheels his wounded ego onto a plane and into a sizzling romance with a sharp-tongued cowgirl who’s got more bark than his last girlfriend. Maggie Eckersley’s *Second Chance Saloon* is a rom-com with spurs on, where small-town Texas meets Cancún’s neon nightlife. The chemistry crackles between Mitch and ex-bull rider Lila, whose saloon hides secrets as tangled as the rodeo circuit. If you crave banter that stings like a branding iron and heartstrings tugged harder than a lasso, this rodeo’s your ticket. The audiobook’s pacing keeps the plot trotting at a brisk canter, never trotting into cliché territory, thanks to Eckersley’s knack for balancing humor and heartache. Expect a few heart-in-throat moments that’ll have you clinging to your headphones like a cowboy to his saddle during a bucking bull ride.

AudioBook Atlas

I started *Second Chance Saloon* expecting another formulaic cowboy romance—until Lila’s first line about Mitch’s “expensive mistake” of a heartbreak hooked me like a calf roper on a bad day. The narration, when announced, will need to ride the razor’s edge between Mitch’s self-deprecating charm and Lila’s razor-sharp wit without veering into caricature, and that’s no small feat. Eckersley’s script delivers rapid-fire dialogue that demands a performer who can make insults sound like foreplay, so fingers crossed the voice artist brings that spark. Where the book stumbles, though, is in the middle act’s stretch from Cancún to Texas, where the stakes feel more obligatory than organic—like a rodeo clown inserted just because the script says “add conflict.” The production, once unveiled, must balance the salty humor with tender beats, especially during the quieter scenes where Mitch’s vulnerability sneaks in like a thief. The ending, while satisfying, wraps up a bit too neatly for my taste; I wanted more grit, more scars left visible. But if you’re here for laughs, lust, and a heroine who could out-ride any of us, this audiobook’s your campfire.
