I’ll admit, I went into *Seventh Seal* expecting another ‘chosen one in a quirky town’ trope-fest, but Faye subverts expectations at every turn. The protagonist’s voice is what hooks you—imagine if *Good Omens*’ Crowley had a lovechild with a Midwestern bartender, and you’re halfway there. The plot unfolds like a peeling onion: just when you think you’ve got a handle on the supernatural weirdness (four horsemen? Sure, fine), Faye yanks the rug out with a twist that reframes everything. That said, the middle act drags slightly with *just* a bit too much ‘will they/won’t they’ angst between the leads. I found myself fast-forwarding through a couple of the ‘moody silence’ scenes—though Schwairy’s narration almost saves them by making the awkwardness *funny*. Schwairy’s performance is a clinic in how to elevate material. Her comedic timing is *chef’s kiss*—she lands the one-liners with perfect deadpan, but it’s her handling of the darker moments (like the scene in the abandoned church) that surprised me. The production quality is flawless: no odd volume spikes, no mispronunciations, just a seamless listen. My only critique? The sound mixing during a few of the action sequences could’ve used more dynamic range—the demon fight at the 6-hour mark felt a tad flat compared to the rest. But that’s nitpicking. If you love paranormal romance with actual *bite*, a heroine who’s equal parts jaded and vulnerable, and a narrator who could read a grocery list and make it sound like stand-up, this is your next obsession. Just maybe skip it if you’re allergic to sarcasm or the phrase ‘well, this is fine’ as a life philosophy.
