I’ve listened to a lot of Tarot audiobooks, and most either drown in New Age fluff or dryly recite card meanings like a textbook. *Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom* is the rare exception—a work that’s *intellectually* rigorous and *spiritually* electric. Pollack’s approach is almost revolutionary: she treats the Tarot as a language, not a fortune-telling tool, and Marlo’s narration sells this vision perfectly. Her tone shifts subtly—a hint of mischief when discussing the Magician’s sleight of hand, solemnity for Death’s inevitability—making the abstract feel tangible. The production is clean, with no distracting edits, though I wish the chapter breaks aligned more clearly with the Major/Mineror Arcana divisions for easier navigation. That said, this isn’t a casual listen. Pollack’s depth can feel overwhelming if you’re new to Tarot; she assumes you’re willing to wrestle with Jungian archetypes and Qabalah correspondences. And while Marlo’s delivery is superb, her pacing in the denser sections (looking at you, “Path of Samekh” analysis) might test shorter attention spans. My biggest critique? The audiobook lacks a companion PDF for the card illustrations—Pollack’s visual references are *essential*, and listening blind leaves gaps. Still, for serious students, this is the closest you’ll get to a graduate-level Tarot seminar in audio form. It doesn’t just teach the cards; it changes how you see them.
