About This Audiobook

What happens when the thing that terrifies you becomes impossible to resist? Natalia, a witch with no power in a family of deadly occultists, has spent her life hiding in the shadows. But when the Nocnitsa—a shadow-dwelling nightmare demon from Slavic lore—slithers out of her darkest memories and into her reality, Natalia is forced into a reckless bargain. The catch? The Nocnitsa wants more than ink and sigils; it wants her heart. Darva Green crafts a romance that crackles with gothic tension and queer longing, where desire and danger are indistinguishable. This isn’t a story about defeating monsters—it’s about what happens when you realize the monster might be the only one who truly sees you. The prose is sharp, sensual, and unapologetically bold, making it a standout in the paranormal romance genre.

Parker Everly’s narration elevates the material with a sultry, knowing voice that shifts effortlessly between Natalia’s vulnerability and the Nocnitsa’s predatory charm. Everly’s delivery breathes life into Green’s atmospheric world, making the supernatural feel intimate and the romance feel visceral. The audiobook thrives on contrast—whispers that slither into your ears, silences that hum with dread, and a rhythm that keeps you glued to the edge of your seat. It’s a feast for the senses, especially for listeners who crave stories where love and peril are tangled up in the most delicious ways.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I don’t usually go for paranormal romances where the love interest is literally a nightmare monster, but Darva Green sold me on the premise—and Parker Everly sold me on the execution. Everly’s narration is the secret weapon here; their voice drips with dark charisma when voicing the Nocnitsa, making it easy to understand why Natalia would risk everything for a creature that should terrify her. The way they modulate between Natalia’s internal panic and the demon’s seductive menace keeps the tension dialed to eleven. But what really worked for me was the story’s refusal to simplify its characters. Natalia isn’t a damsel in distress—she’s a witch who’s spent years cowering, and her slow, reluctant surrender to the Nocnitsa feels earned, not forced. The worldbuilding is rich without being overstuffed, and the romance unfolds at a pace that feels deliberate, not rushed. That said, the audiobook isn’t without flaws. There were a few instances where the pacing dragged during the middle act, particularly in some of the exposition-heavy scenes about Natalia’s coven. I also wish the Nocnitsa’s motivations had been fleshed out a bit more—right now, they feel more like a plot device than a fully realized character. But those are minor quibbles in what is otherwise a deliciously wicked listen. The production values are top-notch, with subtle audio cues that enhance the eerie atmosphere without overpowering the narrative. If you’re looking for a romance that swaps traditional tropes for something darker, sexier, and unapologetically queer, this is your audiobook. It’s equal parts addictive and unsettling—exactly what I want from a paranormal romance.
