About This Audiobook

Michael Palmer's Side Effects is a gripping medical thriller that delves into the darker side of hospital politics. Kate Bennett, a talented pathologist, is forced to confront the consequences of her work when a series of unexplained patient deaths rocks the hospital. Palmer's writing expertly weaves together intrigue and suspense, creating a narrative that's both thought-provoking and impossible to put down. Narrator Angela Dawe brings Kate's story to life with her nuanced portrayal, capturing the character's intelligence, empathy, and growing sense of unease. Dawe's performance is particularly noteworthy in its ability to convey the complexities of the medical world without overwhelming listeners with jargon or technical detail.

Editor's Review ★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical about diving into a medical thriller, but Michael Palmer's Side Effects won me over from the start. Angela Dawe's narration is a big part of that – she brings a sense of vulnerability and determination to Kate's story that's impossible to resist. One of the things that really stood out to me is the way Palmer explores the complexities of medical ethics, particularly in the context of a high-stakes hospital setting. It's a thought-provoking and timely topic, and Palmer handles it with sensitivity and nuance. If I have any criticisms, it's that a few of the supporting characters feel a bit one-dimensional at times – I would have liked to see a bit more development in terms of their backstories and motivations. Still, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise compelling audiobook.
