Someone in the House

As someone who grew up devouring gothic horror novels, I was immediately drawn to Someone in the House - and Barbara Rosenblat's narration only added to the experience. Her voice is a masterclass in atmosphere and tension, conjuring the eerie setting of Grayhaven Manor with a precision that's both unsettling and captivating. One of my favorite aspects of the book is the way Michaels slowly peels back the layers of mystery, revealing a cast of complex and often unlikeable characters. My only criticism would be that the pacing occasionally feels a bit uneven, with some sections dragging slightly behind the rest of the narrative. However, this is a minor quibble in what is otherwise a beautifully crafted and deeply unsettling tale. One scene that stands out in particular is the eerie dinner party sequence, where Michaels masterfully ratchets up the tension to almost unbearable levels. Rosenblat's narration is pitch-perfect here, imbuing each character's dialogue with a sense of growing unease that's almost palpable. Overall, Someone in the House is a gripping and unputdownable listen that's sure to appeal to fans of the gothic horror genre.
