Listening to 'Strange and Obscure Stories of the Civil War' was like taking a whirlwind tour through the most fascinating, and often overlooked, moments of the Civil War. From a soldier who accidentally shot himself in the foot to a general who was almost killed by a runaway cow, these stories are as entertaining as they are educational. Fred Sanders' narration is the perfect complement to Rowland's writing, his voice capturing the essence of each tale with a warmth and authenticity that makes you feel like you're right there with the characters. The pacing is spot on, never lingering too long on any one story, but also not rushing through them like a checklist. My only critique is that I sometimes wished for a bit more context to help place these stories within the broader scope of the war. But that's a small price to pay for such an engaging and unique listening experience.
