What I got was a story that’s equal parts playful and poignant, anchored by two lead performances that make the most of McLaughlin’s razor-sharp script. Nelson Hobbs nails Finn’s cocky charm and hidden vulnerability—his delivery of the lines about Macey being the “one that got away” actually made me laugh out loud. Stephanie Rose is the perfect foil as Macey: her voice carries the exhaustion of someone who’s hit rock bottom but refuses to stay down, and her chemistry with Hobbs crackles in a way that feels earned. The narration is snappy, with Hobbs and Rose trading lines seamlessly, though there were a couple of spots where the pacing lagged slightly during introspective scenes, which made me wish for a bit more emotional depth in the delivery. That said, the production is otherwise tight, with clear audio that lets the banter and tension shine. My one critique? The ending fell a little flat for me—too neat, too quick compared to the messy, lived-in journey it took to get there. Still, this audiobook is a winner for anyone who wants a rom-com that’s smarter than the average love story, wrapped in a package that’s as addictive as a slot machine pull.
