I’ll admit, I approached this box set with skepticism. Christian romantic suspense can sometimes tip into saccharine territory, but Lynn Shannon’s Texas Rangers are as hardened as they are honorable. The first book, *Guardian*, hooks you immediately with a cold-open ambush that sets the tone: these are professionals who pray as hard as they shoot. What I didn’t expect was how *funny* some of the dialogue would be—Shannon slips in dry, Texas-sized wit that cuts the tension without undermining it. Cindy Piller’s performance is a masterclass in balancing toughness and tenderness. Her male voices—especially the gruff, weary Rangers—avoid the pitfall of sounding like bad impersonations, and she nails the rhythmic cadence of rural Texas speech. That said, the production isn’t flawless: a few abrupt edits in *Protector* (Book 2) yank you out of the moment, and the romantic tension in *Defender* (Book 3) drags just a beat too long before the payoff. Still, the set’s strengths far outweigh its stumbles. The villains are genuinely menacing (no mustache-twirling here), the faith elements feel lived-in rather than tacked on, and the action scenes crackle with authenticity. If you’re tired of suspense that skimps on either the suspense *or* the romance, this is your antidote—just keep a tissue handy for the prayer scenes that hit like a gut punch.
