Thalia Kids' Book Club: Gene Luen Yang, Paths & Portals

As someone who has been a fan of Gene Luen Yang's work since American Born Chinese, I was excited to dive into Paths & Porters. The audiobook, narrated by Christopher Myers, exceeded my expectations. Myers' voice is engaging and brings the characters to life, making the story even more immersive. The pacing is perfect, with enough suspense and intrigue to keep me listening, even during a busy commute. One aspect that I particularly enjoyed was how the audiobook seamlessly integrated the illustrations with the narration. The combination of text and visuals creates a unique listening experience that makes the story feel more tangible. While the coding aspect of the story may be intimidating for some listeners, Yang does an excellent job of breaking down the concepts and making them accessible to everyone. However, I did find that some of the technical jargon could be difficult to follow at times, especially for those without a background in coding. Overall, Paths & Portals is a fantastic addition to the Secret Coders series and a must-listen for fans of both literature and coding.
