The Academy

As an audiobook editor, I've had the pleasure of diving into some of the most gripping stories of the year, but David Poyer's The Academy still left me breathless. Gary Galone's narration is a major part of the book's appeal, bringing a sense of gravitas and authority to the story that perfectly complements Poyer's writing. I was particularly impressed by the way Galone handled the book's more introspective moments, conveying Lenson's emotional struggles with a subtlety that felt entirely authentic. One of the things that really sets The Academy apart is its thoughtful exploration of the intersection of politics and military leadership. Poyer's a master at crafting compelling characters, and Lenson is no exception - his struggles to balance duty, loyalty, and personal ambition are both deeply relatable and utterly compelling. If I have one criticism, it's that the book's pacing can feel a bit uneven at times, with some sections feeling a bit slow. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise outstanding audiobook that's sure to appeal to fans of sea adventures, military fiction, and great storytelling.
