The narration by Dani Martineck is nothing short of stellar; her ability to modulate tones and inflections keeps the listener hooked throughout the 13-hour journey. Her performance, particularly in scenes of introspection, adds a layer of authenticity that elevates Larison's prose. The pacing is deliberate but not sluggish, allowing each chapter to build upon the last with careful attention to detail. However, the novel occasionally veers into exposition-heavy sections which can be slightly tedious. Despite this minor critique, 'The Ancients' remains an engrossing listen that challenges the listener to ponder the importance of tradition and knowledge in a rapidly changing world.
