Michael Manuel's narration is the star of this audiobook. His deep, commanding voice perfectly captures the patriarch's power and menace, even as it reveals the character's decay and desperation. The story, however, can be challenging. It's a stream-of-consciousness narrative that jumps between time periods and perspectives, which can be disorienting at times. But for those who enjoy a literary puzzle, this is a rewarding listen. The production is simple, allowing García Márquez's prose and Manuel's narration to take center stage.
