The Beginning

As an audiobook editor, I have the privilege of immersing myself in a wide range of stories, but 'The Beginning' truly resonated with me. Leah Horowitz's narration is a standout, and I found myself drawn into the world of Susie Mast with ease. What struck me most, however, was the way Lewis tackles the theme of identity, particularly in the context of faith. It's a delicate balance to strike, but Lewis pulls it off with finesse, creating a narrative that is both deeply personal and universally relatable. One area where I felt the story could have benefited from further development is in the character of Susie's love interest, Caleb. While he is a kind and gentle soul, I felt that his motivations and backstory were somewhat underdeveloped, which made it difficult to fully invest in his relationship with Susie. Additionally, I found the pacing to be a bit uneven at times, with certain sections feeling slightly rushed. However, these quibbles are minor, and overall, 'The Beginning' is a beautiful and thought-provoking listen that will resonate with fans of Christian fiction and Amish literature.
