Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

As an audiobook editor, I was thoroughly charmed by 'The Big Oyster.' From the opening chapters, I was hooked by Kurlansky's infectious enthusiasm and Mayer's smooth narration. The story flows effortlessly, taking listeners on a journey through the city's past, from the early Dutch settlers to the modern-day oyster bars of the East River. However, at times, I found the narrative to get bogged down in technical details, particularly in the sections on oyster ecology and aquaculture. Additionally, some listeners may find the pacing a bit slow, particularly in the later chapters. Still, these minor quibbles are easily outweighed by the audiobook's many strengths, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and engaging listening experience.
