Hannah’s love of red herrings sometimes tips into self-indulgence, and there’s a subplot involving a reclusive poet that feels more gimmicky than gripping. But Elizabeth Sastre’s narration saves it from becoming tedious. Her delivery is hypnotic—she nails the quiet desperation of a woman teetering on the edge, and her ability to modulate tension without melodrama is impressive. The audio production is flawless, though I wished for more dynamic range in the quieter, more introspective scenes. This isn’t a perfect audiobook, but it’s a *fascinating* one, ideal for listeners who crave psychological depth over cheap thrills.
