As an editor, I was thoroughly charmed by Dawson McBride's performance in The Gingerbread Man. His ability to bring out the quirky, whimsical tone of Kim Turner's writing is impressive, and listeners will find themselves swept up in the mystery of the gingerbread man's nocturnal visits. Turner's storytelling is a masterclass in gentle suspense, and McBride's pacing helps to ratchet up the tension in just the right moments. If I have a critique, it's that some of the supporting characters feel a bit one-dimensional – but this is a minor quibble, and by the time the story reaches its heartwarming conclusion, listeners will be forgiven for any shortcomings in the characters. If you're looking for a holiday listen that's both fun and thoughtful, The Gingerbread Man is an excellent choice.
