That said, the production isn’t flawless. The mid-book shift in pacing—where some scenes drag slightly while others zip past—can feel disjointed, as if the editor wasn’t sure whether to prioritize tension or atmosphere. And while Kay’s worldbuilding is sprawling, the sheer number of named characters sometimes demands a spreadsheet to keep straight. But these are minor quibbles. The audiobook’s true triumph is how Morton makes Kay’s themes feel urgent and personal.
