Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

As a long-time fan of medieval romance, I was thoroughly enthralled by The Mercenary's Bride. From the opening pages, I was hooked by Quentin's anguished narrative, which Tim Campbell brings to vivid life with his expressive voice. Campbell's performance is nothing short of superb, imbuing the characters with a depth and nuance that's all too rare in audiobooks. His ability to convey the emotional toll of Quentin's experiences had me feeling every punch, every blow, and every tender moment. That being said, I did find the pacing to be a tad uneven at times, particularly in the second half of the novella. Delacroix's plotting is expertly woven, but some scenes feel a bit rushed, glossing over key plot points without sufficient resolution. Additionally, the supporting cast feels somewhat one-dimensional, lacking the complexity and depth that the main characters enjoy. Still, these minor quibbles aside, The Mercenary's Bride is a truly exceptional listen, one that will leave you breathless and yearning for more. Delacroix's writing is a masterclass in character development, and Campbell's narration is the perfect complement to her vivid storytelling.
