The story itself is a wild hybrid: part *The Once and Future King*, part *The Celestine Prophecy*, with a dash of *Dark Night of the Soul*. Merlin’s reincarnation as a disillusioned modern man (named, of all things, *Arthur*) could feel gimmicky, but Chopra commits hard to the bit, weaving in real-world anxieties about technology, faith, and human potential. The pacing is where things get tricky. At three hours, this is essentially a novella, and the breakneck speed means some ideas—like the ‘shadow self’ battles—feel undercooked. The climax, a psychic showdown in a Welsh cave, is visually stunning but emotionally rushed, as if Chopra got so excited by his own mythmaking that he forgot to let the characters breathe. And oh, the *dialogue*. Some exchanges between Merlin and his modern disciples veer into exposition-as-monologue territory, where characters sound like Chopra’s seminar notes come to life. Yet, for all its flaws, the audiobook lingers. Jones’ performance elevates even the clunkiest lines, and the core idea—that ancient wisdom isn’t dead, just waiting for the right vessel—is intoxicating. If you’ve ever wanted to hear Merlin debate free will with a quantum physicist while a narrator makes it sound *cool*, this is your jam. Just don’t expect subtlety.
