About This Audiobook

Sara Cate’s *The Rule of Three* is a high-stakes romantic collision wrapped in a claustrophobic Parisian elevator—where three strangers, each with a chip on their shoulder, are forced into an intimacy that neither wants nor can ignore. Julian Kade, a cynical writer with a razor-sharp wit, thinks he’s above everyone until he’s locked in with Freya Kapoor, a sharp-tongued chef whose food burns brighter than her glare, and Archer Wilde, a street-smart fighter whose charm is as distracting as his bruises. Cate’s dialogue crackles with tension, balancing sarcasm and vulnerability so deftly that you’ll find yourself rooting for these three to stop fighting long enough to admit what they really need. The chemistry is a slow burn, but it’s the kind that lingers like the last bite of a perfect meal—unexpected, intense, and impossible to ignore.

The real magic here is in how Cate twists the tropes. This isn’t just enemies-to-lovers; it’s enemies-to-something messier, more real, and far more compelling. The setting—Paris, of all places, where romance should be effortless—only heightens the frustration, as every alleyway and café becomes a reminder of what these characters can’t have. The audiobook’s narration elevates this further: Brandon Francis’s Julian is all sneered insults and reluctant vulnerability, while Simone Lewis’s Freya is a whirlwind of defiance and heat. The ensemble cast, including Teddy Hamilton’s Archer, nails the tonal shifts, making the listening experience feel like eavesdropping on a private, heated conversation. If you’ve ever wanted to hate-fall in love, this is your book.

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *The Rule of Three* expecting a standard enemies-to-lovers trope, but Sara Cate flipped the script in the best way possible. The first chapter alone—trapped in an elevator with Julian’s biting one-liners and Freya’s equally sharp comebacks—hooked me instantly. Brandon Francis’s narration of Julian is a masterclass in reluctant charm; his dry delivery makes every insult land like a punchline, but there’s a vulnerability beneath the snark that sneaks up on you. Simone Lewis’s Freya is the perfect foil, all fire and defiance, and her chemistry with Francis crackles so hard I could practically feel the static. The real standout, though, was Jason Clarke’s Archer—his voice has this effortless warmth that makes his charm feel earned, not forced. That said, the pacing stumbled in the middle act, where the emotional stakes felt rushed between Paris’s glittering backdrop and the trio’s forced proximity. A few scenes could’ve used more breathing room to let the tension simmer. And while the ending wraps up neatly, I’ll admit I craved a little more grit—I wanted these characters to fight harder for what they wanted, not just drift into it. Still, the narration carries the day. If you’re a fan of banter, slow-burn tension, and characters who feel like they’d survive (or thrive) in real life, this audiobook is a must-listen. The production is crisp, the performances are spot-on, and the story? It’s the kind of romance that leaves you grinning like an idiot long after the final chapter.
