The Schooldays of Jesus

James Cameron Stewart's narration is the heart of this audiobook. His performance is so engaging, it's easy to forget you're listening to a story, not a conversation. Coetzee's writing, however, can be challenging. The plot meanders, and the philosophical musings can feel like they're in a language all their own. But there's a charm to this oddity, a sense of discovery that makes it worth the effort. The production is simple, letting the story and narration take center stage. I found myself wishing for more depth in the character development, but the unique premise and Stewart's performance make this a compelling listen.
