Their dynamic is a masterclass in unresolved tension, and Lucas writes their arguments with such specific, biting dialogue that I found myself rewinding to savor the burns. Chantal Busse’s performance elevates the material further. She nails the heroine’s sarcasm, but where she really shines is in the quieter moments—like when the hero’s voice drops to a rasp during a confession, or when the heroine’s breath catches mid-sentence. My only critique? The pacing drags slightly in the middle during the documentary filming scenes; the technical jargon about camera angles occasionally feels like padding. And while the steamy scenes sizzle, a few transitions between them and the plot-heavy chapters could’ve been smoother. Still, the audiobook’s production is polished, with subtle sound design (the crash of waves, the click of a camera) that grounds the story without gimmickry.
